Spider season is back!!
Summer is officially over, we can now look forward to cosy jumpers, fresh Autumn air and spiced pumpkin lattes! However, one thing in Autumn we do not welcome is the house spider season, which is now sadly upon us!
We have found some helpful tips for you to warn off the eight-legged creatures.
You will find more spiders in your house around this time of year because it is their mating season, male spiders will be scurrying around looking for a female and somewhere warm and dry to nest over the winter!
There is an old wives’ tale that conkers are meant to give off a chemical that is poisonous to spiders, unfortunately there has been many studies that has proven this to be false so don’t waste your time hiding conkers around your home.
- Apparently, spiders hate the smell of mint, if you put a few drops of peppermint oil / spray around your home this will deter them from nesting.
- Keep your home clean and vacuum regularly to get rid of any spider eggs.
- Make sure you don’t leave any garden rubbish bags by your front door and sweep up any leaves by your door regularly.
- Cat owners usually have far less spider as they love catching them. (This option may be a tad extreme buying a cat to keep away spiders. We wouldn’t recommend this one)!
We hope this helps!
